DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
Donald Moody, You are correct. After much research, the father of James Douglas Manning is James S or L Manning, a son of Richard J Manning and a first wife, likely Carolyn Allen. My DNA links me to the descendants of nearly all of Richard J Manning's other children. James W Manning is not the same person.
There are two very similar James Manning's born in Georgia in 1845. My James Douglas Manning was born in Gwinnett Co to James S or L Manning and Rhoda Puckett Manning. And he mustered into the Civil War in Oktibbeha Co, MS in 1861 at the age of 16. His mother, Rhoda had moved there with her family at the break up of her marriage. The other two sons had moved there as well. The James you speak of either stayed in Georgia or moved to Florida. James Douglas' grandfather was Richard J Manning. Ancestry DNA has proven that.
