Biography

Research Note

"II. Elizabeth^, daughter to John '^ Mariner, b. Oct. 20, 1712, in Gloucester; bap. Oct. 25, 1712, in the First Church. She was married, probably in Falmouth, to Samuel Staples. Samuel ^ Staples, or Staple as the early records have it, was b. March 13, 1707-08, in Kittery, Maine. He was son to James 2 and Mary (Tetherly) Staples, of Kittery, and grandson to Peter ^ Staple, a resident of that town in 1671. The History of Kittery calls the wife of Samuel Staples, Elizabeth Sawyer, || an error probably arising from the appearance, Jan. 25, 1751, of " Samuel Staples of s'd Falmouth & Elizabeth, his Wife," among the heirs of " Abraham Sawyer, late of Gloucester . . . Deceased." ..." page 1137 Descendants of Edward Small of New England, and the allied families, with tracings of English ancestry by Underhill, Lora Altine Woodbury

Elizabeth was born in 1712.

Note

"I do not manage profile Elizabeth Staples (Mariner-96) or Lucy Staples (Staples-3014); however the death date for Elizabeth Mariner may be a typo. I have 1798 instead of 1748, if so this would resolve issue of Lucy Staples birth date being after 1748." - Jody Hamabata (York-7041)
