Biography

The baptism of Augustin Marriott, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Marriott, is recorded among the records of All Hallow's parish on 18 MAY 1718.[1]

Marriage and Family

The will of Augustine Marriott indicates he had a wife named Mary. She was apparently married before to a man named Hall, since Augustine mentions a son-in-law named John Hall. Three children are mentioned in his will:

Abstract of Will

1 JAN 1771, I Augustine Marriot of Ann Arundel County being sick in body . . .

  • I appoint my wife Mary Marriot to be my whole and sole executor and give my dwelling plantation whereon I now live during her life and at her decease the said land to be equally divided between my two daughters, namely Sarah Yieldhall and Mary Sewell.
  • I give to my son John Marriot one tract of land being part of a tract called Shephard’s Forrest.
  • I give to my wife Mary Marriot all my whole estate during her widdowhood, but if my wife should intermarry then my will is that she shall have but one third part.
  • I give to my son-in-law, John Hall his three daughters, namely Mary, Sarah and Achsah, nine pounds current money to be equally divided to be paid out of my esate after my wife’s decease.
  • I give to my son John Marriot one negro man called Charles
  • I give to my daughter Sarah Yieldhall one negroe woman called Denice
  • I give to my daughter Mary Sewell one negroe woman called Delilah
  • My will is further that if either of the above mentioned negroes should die before my decease that the person to whom they are mentioned shall have their first choce of one of my remaining negroes to in like manner.
  • The remaining part of my estate to be equally divided amonst my three children, namely John, Sarah and Mary.

Signed with a signature in the presence of John Marriot, Joseph Warfeld & Joshua Gambrill. Probated 17 JUN 1772.[2]
