Parents Nicolas "Colas" Materne and Marianne Himel
In the St. Charles Parish Original Acts, May 21, 1811, Dominique became tutor for Louis and Sophie Pochet, his nephews. Dominique and his wife Marianne Himel, together with Antoinio Sanchez, stood bond for the $869 belonging to the two minors. On May 31, 1811, Marianne Himel, wife of Dominique Roussel, declared that she owed Pierre Bauchet Saint Martin, tutor of Nicolas Materne and Celestin Materne, Mme Rouselle's children by a former marriage, the sum of $2,000. This amount she borrowed from the children at the time they reached their majority. As surety Dominique Roussel and his wife mortgaged their farm located on the right bank of the river, being 2 arpents wide by 40 arpents deep, bounded above by the property of Isidore, a free man of color, and below by that of Gabriel Lorio, a free mulatto. They also mortgaged the following slaves: Rose, Manon, and Manette. Witnesses: Chevron and Charles Perret. [1]
