Biography
The approximate birth year for Alexander Mathé is a rough guess. His place of birth and names of his parents are unknown. According to sources, particularly in PANS (Public Archives of Nova Scotia): land deeds, his name sometimes appeared as Matthew Alexander, nearly a reversal of surname and given name.
What is known is that Alexander Mathé married Marie Jeanne "Jeanette" Benoit about 1785. Alexander and Jeanette had five children including Susanne, abt. 1790; Moise "Maurice," b. abt. 1793; Alexander; Isabelle, b. 1796 in Tracadie, Antigonish, Nova Scotia; and Elie "Charles" b. abt. 1798 in Nova Scotia.
Alexander died before 1798 probably in Nova Scotia.
