The son of Archibald Matteson SrandLouisa (Tenney) Matteson, Jesse Mattison was born in the village of Plainfield, New York[citation needed] in 1816. His family left New York, returning to Vermont where Jesse married Mary (Huling) Mattison, marrying in Bennington, Vermont on March 16, 1840.[1] They made their home in Bennington,[2] having four known children together.
Jesse and his family joined some of his siblings in Michigan, residing in Concord Township, Michigan, in Jackson County.[3] Later still, they moved to Iowa, where their son, Walter, was born. They moved again, this time to Medina County, Ohio, where several of his brothers had settled. Jesse's wife passed away in 1877. In 1880, he and two of his children--his daughter, Augusta, who was a widow, and his son, Don--farmed in Lafayette, Ohio.[4] In 1900, he lived with his son, Don, and his family in Lyme, Ohio.[5] Jesse and Mary migrated again, returning to Michigan and residing in Albion Township, where their youngest son was born.
Jesse Mattison passed away in Bellevue, Ohio at the age of 87.[6] A widower, his occupation was listed as "laundry" -- his son, Donald, owned a laundry. He is buried at Spring Grove Cemetery in Medina, Ohio.[7]
