Anne was born on May 6, 1914 to Arturo Mauro and Mary Fortezza in Port Arthur, Ontario, Canada. She was the eldest of six surviving children. During her remarkable 100 years of life, Anne worked as a secretary, real estate agent and homemaker. Noted for her extraordinary beauty, she was even under contract, for a brief period of time, to a major movie studio. She was preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Michael Murphy, husband, Albert Pratz, brothers Angelo and Joseph Mauro and sister, Lucy Mauro Maki.
A Canadian citizen throughout her life, Anne lived a large portion of her life in the United States, a country she deeply loved. During World War II, while her husband served in the military, Anne worked for the U.S. Army as a secretary. She adored politics and supported (both financially and especially verbally) several Presidential candidates. She had a strong belief in community service and was a proud member of P.E.O. Chapter SI, a philanthropic educational organization. She loved to travel and was still enjoying cruises at 90. Vivacious, articulate, witty and tenacious, her light was dimmed in her last years by Dementia. After residing with her daughter and son-in-law for 11 years, her last few years were spent as a resident of Emeritus in Corona and Meridian Gardens in Riverside where she was loved and cared for by extraordinary staff. Her service will be held Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Pierce Bros., 11500 Arlington Ave., Riverside 92505 with burial immediately following at Crestlawn Memorial Park.[1]
