Charity Barbara Maxson was born in 1824 in Pike Township, Clark County, Ohio, United States, daughter of Jesse Maxson (1772–1851) and Sarah Sutton (1782–1863).
She was a direct descendent of the Rev. Joseph Maxson from Rhode Island. The description of where her 2nd great grandfather and many other ancestors are buried reads:
"This Monument is a memorial to the early pastors of the Second Seventh Day Baptist Church in America. Whose remains lie buried with in the enclosing circle. They were stalwart men and sound preachers. They fought a good fight and kept the faith. Upon this spot stood the house of worship from 1680 to 1852."

Charity died in 1881 in Clark County, aged 56. She was buried in Myers Cemetery, North Hampton, Clark County, Ohio.[11]
