Catherine was the daughter of Hugh McArthur and Margaret Murray, born in Lot 14 Prince Edward Island.
Her father died without a will and Catherine was a single woman in 1859 when she and other members of the family signed a land indenture related to her father's property in Lot 14. [1]
Her married sister Maria and mother Margaret emigrated to Illinois, and Catherine married a fellow Prince Edward Islander, Archibald Campbell, in 1868 in Illinois. [2] Archibald was a cousin, the son of Donald Campbell and Jane Murray from Lot 16.
Katie Campbell was living in Aurora, Illinois in 1870 and 1880 with husband Archie and daughter Margaret. They are on the same page of the census with Alexander Campbell and Marie (McArthur), also from PEI. Margaret McArthur, age 85, from PEI was next to Archie and Katie on the census form. [3]
Catherine wasn't in the PEI baptismal index. I wasn't able to find a record of a marriage between Catherine and Archibald Campbell in the PEI marriage registers up to 1853. Information came from the book Climbing the Hill.
