Biography

John Alvin McCool was born on 17 Feb 1888^[1] in Barton County, Missouri. He was the son of James Thomas McCool (1851-1906) and Anna Maria (Schneider) McCool (1863-1900). His mother died when he was 12; his father when John was 18.

In the 1900 census John (age 12) was the son of James T McCool in South West Township, Barton, Missouri, United States.^[2]

John married Nancy Louise "Nannie" Kelley (1887-1981), reportedly on 25 Dec 1907 in Pittsburg, Crawford County, Kansas. They would have ten sons together; nine lived to adulthood:

In the 1930 census John (age 42) was the married head of household in Pittsburg, Crawford, Kansas, United States.^[7]

John died on 22 Mar 1934 in Cherokee County, Kansas. He was buried in Mount Olive Cemetery in Pittsburg, Crawford County, Kansas.^[8]

Research Notes

John's WWI draft registration states that he was born in Opolis, Kansas, but all Census records show he was born in Missouri. The McCool family farm in southwest Barton County, Missouri was only about a mile from Opolis.
