Died BEF 21 MAR 1881. Kaufman County, Texas, United States. Note: Kaufman County is chosen based on the fact that all available records after 1850 show him in the county and the fact that his children are still in the area at the next census.[7][8]

Property: 140 acres from J. F. Roof. BEF 1872. Kaufman County, Texas, United States. 13 FEB 1878. Kaufman County, Texas, United States. Note: The State of Texas Kaufman County Know all men by these presents that I, J. O. Scott of the above county and State for and in consideration of five hundred dollars in cash to me in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have this day, bargained, sold and conveyed and by these presents bargain, sell and convey to J. R. McDonald of the same county and State, all my right, title and interest in and to the following described tract of land situated in Kaufman County, Texas and beginning at the north corner of J. C. McDaniels fifty acre tract at a rock for corner. Thence S45E52.4 vrs to a rock for corner. Thence N45E530 vrs to the North corner of M. Johnson's survey. Thence S45E133 vrs to corner. Thence N45E395 vrs to corner. Thence N45W670 vrs to corner. Thence S45W92.5 vrs to place of beginning, containing 97 acres of land more or less and; I J. O Scott do hereby covenant that the said J. R. McDonald shall forever have and hold all and singular rights, members and hereditaments and appurtenances belonging to said premises; and I do hereby bind myself, heirs and executors to warrant the title herein made unto the said J. R. McDonald his heirs and assigns; and to forever defend the title to said premises against the claims of any and all persons claiming the same or any part thereof. In witness whereof I hereunto sign my name on this the 13th of Febry AD 1878.[9]

Note: He also had 5 horses, 8 head of cattle and 4 mules with a total value of $1790. prop sold. 13 FEB 1878. Kaufman County, Texas, United States. Note: The State of Texas Kaufman County Know all men by these presents that I J. R. McDonald of the above county and State have this day for the consideration of eight hundred dollars to me paid by J. O. Scott, bargained and sold to said Scott of the same county and State, one half of my entire interest in one acre of land and a steam engine and mill and gin situated thereon. Said land being described as follows: Situated in Kaufman County, Texas on the H R survey of John E. Roof League and labor. Beginning at the north corner of ten acres deeded to said William Jamison at a stake from which a post oak 12 in. in dia vrs N31 W 5 vrs dish. Thence South 45 W 200 feet to a stake. Thence S 206 feet to a stake. Thence N45E 206 feet to a stake. Thence West 45 North 206 feet to the beginning together with all and singular the rights, members and hereditaments to the same belonging. The said Scott is to ratify a deed this day made to me by him for 97 acres of land when he arrives at 21 years of age, otherwise this deed is to become null and void. And I do hereby bind myself and heirs to warrant and forever defend the title herein made to said Scott with the reservation mentioned herein and after said ratification against all claims of any and all persons whatever. In testimony whereof I hereto my name on this Febry 13 1878.[10] prop sold. 17 JUN 1879. Kaufman County, Texas, United States. Note: The State of Texas Kaufman County Know all men by these presents that I John R. McDonald in consideration of the sum of five hundred dollars to me in hand paid by Lewis P. Lively and S. Doak Gray of Kaufman County Texas and in accordance with and following out the covenants of one certain bond for title executed by me in favor of said Lewis P. Lively and S. D. Gray, for the tract of land hereinafter described on the 13th day of February AD 1878 have this day, bargained, sold and conveyed and by these presents bargain, sell and convey by these presents unto said Lewis P. Lively and S. D. Gray the following described tract of land situated in Kaufman County Texas; a part of the A. C. Dixon L & L survey and beginning at the north corner of J. C. McDaniels 50 acre at a rock for corner. Thence S45E52.4 vrs to a rock for corner. Thence N45E530 vrs to the North corner of M. Johnson's survey. Thence S45E133 vrs to corner. Thence N45E395 vrs to corner. Thence N45W670 vrs to corner. Thence S45W92.5 vrs to place of beginning, containing 97 acres of said Dixon League more or less, together with all and singular the rights, members and appurtenances to the same belonging to in anywise appertaining. This deed is made as aforesaid, as a fulfilling of the terms of my bond for title to the premises herein described made during the life of my wife Amanda McDonald now deceased; and I the said John R. McDonald of Kaufman County Texas do herby bind myself, my heirs and administrators to forever warrant and defend the title to the above described premises unto the said Lewis P. Lively and S. Doak Gray, their heirs and assigns against the claim of claims of any and all persons whosoever lawfully claiming or to claim the same or any part thereof. In testimony whereof I hereto set my hand at Terrell, Texas on this 17th day of June AD 1879.[11] $23.58 on his 140 acres valued at $1200. Tax 1879 Kaufman County, Texas, United States. Since this is John McDonald's mother and the children's grandmother, it is assumed that he is no longer alive. Since John's wife Amanda had died before the 1880 census was taken, there would have been no one to care for the children, with the oldest only 8 years old.
