Biography

Allan was born in 1892 in Kankakee, Illinois. ^[1] He was the son of Walter McDonnell. He passed away in September of 1954.

In June of 1917, Allan Edward McDonnell of Chicago, age 24, registered for the draft during World War I. At the time, he stated that he was supporting his mother and sister. His birthday matches, but the year is one year too late. Allan was not quite 25, in June; if the registrar calculated his birth year by subtraction, he didn't allow for the month of birth. ^[2]

Allan was a veteran of the United States Navy from World War I. He served from September 1917 until January 1919. His address was on Coyle Avenue in Chicago, Illinois on that record -- at time of death? ^[3]

On 9 August 1922, Allan Edward McDonnell married Virginia Victoria Bernero in Cook County, Illinois, USA. ^[4]

Allan was the father of Audrey Virginia, born 19 July 1923 in Chicago, Illinois. ^[5]

In 1930, Allan and Virginia were listed as McDonald in the U.S. Census in Chicago, Illinois. Their daughter Audrey, age 6, was with them in this census. ^[6]

In 1940, Allan, Virginia and Audrey were sharing a house with a sister-in-law and her daughter in Chicago, Illinois. ^[7] Audrey's daughters have confirmed that she was Allan and Virginia's only child. ^[8]

Allan is buried, along with other members of the family, in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Hillside, Illinois. His death record also gives his mother's name as Christine Bange and his birth place as Kankakee, Illinois. ^[9]
