Biography

Charles McGuire was born about 1777, probably in the area of Horse Creek in what was then Washington County, North Carolina. That area became part of Tennessee in 1796. He was the son of Cornelius McGuire and Tennessee Dougherty.

Charles married Sallie Doherty in 1802 Jefferson Co., TN. She was probably a daughter of George Doherty but this has not been confirmed. Charles and Sallie had at least one son, Charles G. (Gatliff) McGuire, born c1822. The names of their other children are unknown.

Charles appears to have spent most of his life on or near Calf Killer Fork of Caney Fork in White Co., TN.

He passed away after 1850. Sallie had apparently died earlier.
