Samuel was the son of John McHarg and Fanny Adams and was known as Frank.
He worked as an Orchardist with his father John in Nelson, between 1928 to 1938. The orchard was located on the bluffs north of Mapua and was later sold to the Rush family. The 1940's saw him move to Christchurch where he was working as a Company Rep.
He played for the Number 1 All Black trial Team and sustained a knee injury. This injury was to prevent him from joining the Armed Services in the Pacific during WWII.
Samuel was to marry twice, firstly to Lillian Phillipa Lock, daughter of William Lock and Esther Levien. They married on 23 December 1930. His marriage to Lillian broke down during war time and he later remarried to Brenda Coral Downward.
Samuel passed away age 81 and is buried in Linwood Cemetery, Christchurch. BLK A PLOT 345.
