I do not have any DNA results. I am aware of the issue with Scotish and Irish McMurtries, but have not had the time to investigate fully.

the now defunct McMurtrie.org website has this Joseph McMurtrie family suddenly showing up in Pennsylvania or New Jersey with no know forebearers. The confusion came about because my great grandfather's second cousin John Aten McMurtrie (the Chief designer/engineer of the D&RG railroad in Colorado) had a geneaologist investigate for him, which person erroneously confused two different Josephs. The OTHER Joseph is from the lowlands of Scotland, Ayrshire. This OTHER Joseph was then listed in a self-published book called "One Man's Family." As far as I know the book is right in other details except it did NOT "cross the ocean" with the right Joseph......there were several Josephs that were early settlers.
McMurtrie-61 and McMurtrie-73 appear to represent the same person because: Same individual although death dates are different years.

Featured Asian and Pacific Islander connections: Joseph is 23 degrees from 今上 天皇, 16 degrees from Adrienne Clarkson, 23 degrees from Dwight Heine, 22 degrees from Dwayne Johnson, 20 degrees from Tupua Tamasese Lealofioaana, 19 degrees from Stacey Milbern, 19 degrees from Sono Osato, 30 degrees from 乾隆 愛新覺羅, 20 degrees from Ravi Shankar, 26 degrees from Taika Waititi, 22 degrees from Penny Wong and 16 degrees from Chang Bunker on our single family tree.
