Quinnie McReynolds was born February 21, 1915 in Bryan County, Oklahoma, USA. She was born to William Frank McReynolds and Willie Maye Chappell McReynolds. She was the youngest daughter born to the William Frank McReynold’s family. Her siblings were, which are all deceased, Hazel, Virgil, Edith, Susie(Summie), James, Milford an Heron McReynolds. Not much is known of her sister Susie. School enrollment papers show Quinnie attending school in Bryan County at the age of fifteen. Quinnie was taught to sew at a young age and work in the fields with older siblings and parents. She did enjoy fairs & movies when she was able to go.
Circa 1931 she married Addis Johnson. They moved to Texas and had a daughter they named Robert Lavern Johnson. When Roberta turned two weeks old they moved to Hanna, McIntosh County, Oklahoma, USA and lived with Quinnie’s grandfather James Alexander McReynolds. Addis died when Roberta was a baby. Quinnie married Warren G Pearce on August 25, 1936 at the home of his mother Bertie and step-father William Cothran in Eufaula, Oklahoma. They had two sons and one stillborn daughter in Oklahoma. In 1941 with other McReynolds Family members they decide to move to California to try to find work. While traveling they would stop and work in the fields to earn enough money to further their destination. Upon reaching Arizona, the male adults got jobs and decided to live there. Quinnie had another son while living in Arizona. After less than two years Quinnie and Bud take their children and move to California where their other son and five daughters are born around the Stockton and Fresno area. Quinnie worked in the cotton fields and cutting grapes among other things to help support her family. She hand sewed most of the girls clothes and was a great quilt maker. She regularly attended church with her children.
Quinnie was sick for many years before she succumbed to cancer. She passed away at Tulare County Hospital, Tulare County California on January 08, 1956. She is buried at Smith Mountain Cemetery, Dinuba, California, USA. She was survived by a husband and ten children. Eight of her younger children were placed in foster care right before her death. Some were adopted later. Their father was unable to take care of so many children and was convinced they would be better off in placement. Quinnie was not wealthy and did not leave any monetary legacy. She did leave her children with the meaning of love and kindness and love of the church and humanity.
