Biography

Henry was born in 1873 in Geelong Victoria. He was the son Phillip McShane and his wife of Mary (nee McCabe).

Henry John McShane known as Harry was an Australian Rules footballer who played with Geelong and Carlton in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) and the Victorian Football League (VFL). He was part of one of the most famous footballing families of Australian Rules football, the six McShane brothers of Geelong.

From The Argus newspaper of Wednesday 28 November 1900 we see his Marriage Notice to Mabel Elms below:

McSHANE—ELMS.—On the 14th November, at St. John's R.C. Church, Clifton Hill, by the Rev. Father Collins, Henry, son of Philip McShane, Geelong, to Mabel, daughter of the late George Elms, Melbourne.

He passed away in 1912 at the age of 37 years (possibly really 39 if his year of birth was 1873). He was laid to rest originally at the Melbourne General Cemetery, and a memorial for him also exists at the Geelong Eastern Cemetery, Geelong, Victoria.
