Biography

Mabel was the youngest of five children of Albert McTaggert and Elizabeth Jane Nolan.[1][2] Her father died when she was about three years old. Her family moved in with her grandmother in Ecorse by 1910[3]

The family moved to River Rouge by 1910.[4]There she met and married Edward Girrbach when she was 21. She had been a clerk and Edward was an undertaker.[5]

As the Girrbach family grew, Mabel's mother, Elizabeth, was living with them[6]By 1940, Mabel and Edward had seven children, ages 18 to 5.[7] Ray was the oldest child born July 26, 1921. He was followed by Charles (Chuck), Thomas (Tom), Edward (Eddie), Delores (McDonald), Dorothy (McKee) and Mary Helen (Diroff) (not necessarily in that order of birth).

Her husband, Edward, who was the owner of Girrbach and Sons Funeral Home in River Rouge, MI, died in 1957,[8] and Mabel died at age 86 in 1985.[9]
