But very meager particulars were obtainable this morning concerning the death of George Messenger at Agosta Thursday evening.
Messenger lives at Gurleys and, in company with another man, had visited Agosta in the evening. During his stay in town, he had been drinking with companions, and on his way home, was taken fatally ill, dying before medical aid could be summoned.
It is stated by the party with Messenger that the man had only drank four glasses of beer while in town and there is a suspicion among his friends that he had received some poison.
Messenger was a drinking man and there is not much credence given the story of poison. However the coroner was called to Agosta today and his examination will probably determine the cause of death.
Messenger was a man of between 40 and 50 years of age. He was a soldier of the late war and had many relatives and acquaintances about the county.
The funeral will occur Saturday at 2 o'clock at the Pleasant Hill church.
