At the age of 18 she is listed as a shop assistant in the 1911 census.[3]
Later she worked as the housekeeper for Charles and Elizabeth Gledhill. Elizabeth suffered from a lengthy period of ill health prior to her death. Following the death of Elizabeth in 1915 Charles and Laura were married in the church with the crooked spire St Mary and All Saints, Chesterfield.[4] This caused a scandal in the Gledhill family as Laura was 23 years old and Charles was 53 years old.
She gave Charles a son Charles Frederick Gledhill who was their only child.
Laura died in 1939 at the young age of 46 due to Bright's (kidney) Disease leaving Charles a widower for the second time.[5][6] She is buried in Boythorpe Cemetery beside her husband Charles Gledhill.
She was an attractive woman with curly auburn hair that was inherited by her granddaughter.
