Biography
Annie Louise Milgate was born in Jan 1862 in Johnstown, Fulton, New York, United States to Stephen Milgate and Margaret Wills.[1]
She lived with her parents in Fulton County, New York while she was young.[2] [3] [4]
By 1880, the family had moved to Cameron, Hall, Nebraska where Annie worked as a teacher.[5]
The report of the superintendent who visited her school appeared in the newspaper in 1878:Thursday, May 23d, visited Dist. No. 16. Miss Annie L. Milgate teacher. Number enrolled 14, number present 11. This district has a miserable, dilapidated old sod school house in which are a few rudely constructed benches and desks. With such facilities, no teacher can work successfully, although during my stay, the order was fair, and most of the exercises and recitations decidedly good.[6] and again in 1879:
Wednesday, January 23d. Visited school in District number 58, Annie L. Milgate teacher. Enrolled 22; present 16. School taught in private house, and facilities poor, but school very interesting and recitations good.[7]
Annie married Henry Stowell Fletcher on 25 Dec 1890 in Wood River, Hall, Nebraska.[1]
In 1900, they were living in Long Springs, Banner, Nebraska.[8] By 1910, they had moved to neighbouring Cheyenne, Laramie, Wyomings where she lived at least until 1840.[9] [10] [11] [12]
By 1950, she was living in Colesville, Montgomery, Maryland where she was living in the Joliffe Nursing Home.[13]
Annie Louise Fletcher died on 9 Sep 1952 in Maryland and was buried in the Lakeview Cemeter in Cheyenne, Laramie, Wyoming.[14] She was 90 years old.
