Biography

John Milliken was the son of Mary McConnell Milliken, daughter of James McConnell, the immigrant.

It is possible john was born earlier than 1766 as records show him in the rolls of Capt. John Carothers' Company, 3rd Battalion, Cumberland County Militia in 1780 and Capt. John Flemmings Company in 1781-82-83.

John married 1) Parmelia Stiles (who died in 1794). They had 4 children :

  • Abraham, b. 1785; m. Jane Hufty; d. 4 Aug 1860
  • Rhoda, b. 8 Dec 1788; m. Jonas Rex on 16 Feb 1808; d. 22 Mar 1870
  • Thomas, died in infancy
  • Patience, m. John Prior, had 14 children

John married 2) Mary Campbell who was born in Ireland in 1771. Their known children are:

  • Thomas, b. abt. 1796; m. Elizabeth Cain; d. 12 Oct 1870 in Iowa
  • Samuel, b. 11 Jan 1800; m. Clemetine Hiller; d. 1874 in Ohio
  • James, b. 26 Jan 1802; m. Elizabeth Haver; d. 1895 in Kansas

  • Edwdard, b. 1806; m Lydia Sharpnack; d. 30 May 1882

  • Mary, m. Peter Hiller, Jr., son of Peter Hiller.
  • Joseph, b. 1810; m 1) Miss Emory and 2) Mary Hughes on 29 Nov 1836; d. 14 Sep 1854
  • Frances, m. John Moredock; removed to Berwick, Illinois
  • Elizabeth, never married
  • Isabella, m. Thomas Scott, son of James and Margaret (Kincaid) Scott;
