James was born in 1745. He was the son of James MONK and Ann DEERING.
On 15 February 1774 James, of the Middle Temple, London 'Esquire' married Elizabeth Adams in Westminster, London. [1]

Sir James Monk (1745 – November 18, 1826) was a judge in Lower Canada.
He was born in Boston, Massachusetts and was educated in Halifax (Nova Scotia) where his father was established in 17491.
Monk was Solicitor General of Nova Scotia.
Appointed attorney general of the province of Quebec in 1776, he served from 1776 to 1789 and from 1792 to 1794.
In 1794, he was appointed chief justice of the Court of King's Bench in Montreal.
During his career, Monk served on the executive and legislative councils of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly.
Monk was made a Knight Bachelor in 1825 and 1826.
He died at his home in Cheltenham, England at the age of 81.
