Joseph was born in 1773 in Abb's Valley Va. Joseph was born to Capt. James Moore and Martha Elizabeth Poage. He survived the Indian massacre in 1786 of his parents and six siblings only because he was at his grandparents with the mumps. Two others had been captured, kept alive for several years before returning home. Joseph married Christina Nicewander, moved to Wright's Valley, Va, and they were able to raise their family in peace. He passed away in 1848.
