John was born in 1730, the son of William (Sr.) and Tabitha (Young) Murch, in York County, Massachusetts Bay Colony where he most likely grew up.
On October 5, 1752, John married Anna Dean (unknown parents) in Biddeford, York County, Massachusetts Bay Colony.
John and Anna would have a large family as follows:
Joanna (Murch) Kneeland (1752-abt.1799)
Ephraim Murch (1756– )
Anna Murch (1757– )
John Murch (1757– )
Molly (Murch) Cilley (1761– )
William Murch (1763–1844)
Eunice (Murch) Hancock (1765–1862)

John was a farmer and when the Revolutionary War came along, he was about 50 years old. He served with Patriotic Service by furnishing his son, William, as his substitute.[1]
It is thought John died in 1815 and his body is buried on the family farm.
