Corporal Samuel Murdock served with 15th Massachusetts Bay Provincial Regiment (1775), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

Samuel Murdock was born in Newton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, March 4, 1752, son of Joshua and Esther (Child) Murdock. [1] [2]

He married Beulah Fuller there, December 24, 1780. [1] [2]

  1. Margaret "Peggy" Murdock, b. Dec. 13, 1781. She m. Capt. Joel Houghton in Newton, Sept. 30, 1806, as his second wife,[1] and d. in Newton.

His first wife died December 9, 1804. [1]

He married, second, Jane Bacon in Newton, March 25, 1806. [1] She was the daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth (Child) Bacon, and died in Newton,. September 8, 1849, aged 78. [1]

Samuel answered the Lexington Alarm and was in service for eight months from May 1, 1775, in Colonel Thomas Gardner's regiment, which was present at the battle of Bunker Hill. He was also in the detachment which marched to Dorchester Heights in March, 1776. [3] [4] [5]

He was a man of influence in later years, being a deacon and commonly called major, and was town treasurer for twenty years.

He died in Newton, November 20, 1814. [1]

His widow Jane died in Newton Sept 18, 1849. [1]
