Biography

Ellen (Murphy) Ryan was born in Ireland.

Ellen was baptised on 1 August 1865 in Annascaul, Killeenagh, Ballinvoher, Kerry, Ireland. She was the daughter of Timothy Murphy and Katherine Kevane.^[1]

Ellen emigrated to Lowell, Massachusettts to join her siblings between 1880 and 1885. On 10 January 1886, she married John Ryan, son of Patrick and Mary Ryan, in Lowell, Middlesex, Massachusetts. ^[2]

In the 1900 census Nellie (age 34) was living in Lowell, Middlesex, Massachusetts, with her husband John (age 32), son James H (age 8), daughter Mary E (age 5), son John F (age 2), her sister Bridget Murphy (age 25), and her niece Julia Daley, (age 19). ^[3]

In the 1910 census Ellen (age 44) was living in Lowell, Middlesex, Massachusetts, wth her husband John (age 43), son James (age 18), daughter Mary (age 16), son Frank (age 11), daughter Katherine (age 9), sone Edward (age 7), son George (age 4), and her two newphews Daniel Daley (age 23) and Michael Daley (age 19). ^[4]

In the 1920 census Ellen (age 52) was living in Lowell, Middlesex, Massachusetts, with her husband John (age 53), son James (age 27), daughter Mary (age 25), son Frank (age 21), daughter Teresa (Katherine) (age 19), son Edward (age 17), and son George (age 14). ^[5]

In the 1930 census Ellen (age 59) was living in Lowell, Middlesex, Massachusetts, with her husband John P (age 63), daughter Mary V (age 34), son Frank F (age 30), and son Edward H (age 27). ^[6]

In the 1940 census the now widowed Ellen (age 75) was living in Lowell, Middlesex, Massachusetts, with her daughter Mary V (age 45), son John Francis (age 41), and son Edward H (age 27). ^[7]

In the 1950 census Ellen (age 84) was the widowed mother of John F Ryan in Lowell, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States.^[8]

Ellen died at the age of 87 on 26 February 1953 in Lowell, Middlesex, Massachusetts, USA. ^[9]
