Biography

Harry Owen Murray was the son of Irish immigrants John Murray and Catherine Hoey.[1] He was born on 6 June 1868 in Mobile, Mobile County, Alabama, United States.[1] Harry was enumerated there with his parents and siblings during the 1870 and 1880 censuses.[2][3]

He married Christina M. Irons on 23 October 1894 in Mobile, at St. John's Church.[4][5] They had no known children. Christina apparently died before 1900.[6]

Harry was enumerated during the 1900 census as widowed and a head of household, supporting his mother and sister Mary as a blacksmith at a foundry.[6] In 1910 he was living with the Wade family, and worked as an engineer for the jail.[7]

Harry married a second time, to Annie Hannan, age 38, on 6 September 1911 at St. Mary's Church. She was the daughter of Michael Hannan and Anne Cherry.[8][9][10] No records of any children have been found for this marriage. They have not yet been found on the 1920 census. In 1930 they lived together in Mobile at 556 Marine Street in their home valued at $6,000. Harry worked at the shipyard as an iron worker.[11]

He died of stomach cancer on 15 March 1931 in Mobile,[1][12] and was buried at Magnolia Cemetery.[13] Annie died a few years later, in 1937.[14]
