Biography

Barbara Jane Musick was born on 14 May 1857. She was the daughter of Frederick William Musick and Lucinda Jane Kight.

Barbara married Eli Albert Smith on 15 January 1882 in Tallapoosa County. They had four children: William Fred, Lethia Ernest, Lura M., Luther Jackson Smith.

She passed away at the age of 81 in Phenix City, Alabama on 8 July 1938. She is buried at Pine Grove Cemetery in Phenix City.

Mrs Smith Dies Friday Morning

A long illness proved fatal yesterday morning at 9:45 o’clock to Mrs. Barbara Jane Smith, 81, who succumbed at the home of her daughter, Mrs. V. A. Campbell, 6 miles from Phenix City on the Crawford road.

Mrs. Smith was born in Tallapoosa county Ala., May 14, 1857.

She was married to Eli A. Smith on January 15, 1882. He preceded her in death by several years.

Mrs. Smith has lived in Phenix City for the past forty-two years where she has many friends who will learn of her death with sincere regrets. She was a member of the Central Christian church of Columbus.

She is survived by two sons, W. Smith, of Columbus, and Luther J. Smith, of Phenix City; two daughters, Mrs. V. A. Campbell, and Mrs. Homer Appleby, of Phenix City: four brothers, Louis Musick, of Norfolk, Va., Jack Musick of Alexander City, Ala., John and Roe Musick, of Boaz Ala., two sisters, Mrs. W. M. Peed of Seale, Ala., and Mrs. Love Newsome, of Norfolk, Va.; ten grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

The body was moved to Harris Funeral home.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the West Side Baptist church, of Phenix City, conducted by Rev. W. E. Cunningham, past of Central Christian church, Columbus, assisted by Rev. H. H. Buzbee, pastor of West Side Baptist church and Rev. Parks W. Jordan, pastor of the Hillside Methodist church of Phenix City.

Interment will be in Pinegrove cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: H. E. Hightower, W. H. Hancock, J. M. Hutto, W. P. Statham, C. J. Green, and W. G. Screws.
