Martha died in Q3 1872 and was buried on 5 August 1872 in Charminster.[3][4]
Research Notes
Martha is directly stated to be the daughter of James and Joan "Knail" in her 1801 baptism in Portesham[1] and James' 1825 will.[5] The report of her birthplace as Portesham in the 1861 and 1871 censuses also supports this. Four of Martha's siblings (James, Frances, Harriet and John) witnessed her marriage to James Hallett in 1827.[2] Additionally, she is indirectly mentioned in her mother's 1835 will amongst "three sons and five daughters".[6] The same year, Martha (now Martha Hallett) was a witness to her sister Sarah's marriage to Isaac Grey.[7] Taken together, these prove that the Martha Neale who married James Hallett in 1827 was the Martha Neale baptised in Portesham in 1801, the daughter of James and Joan Neale/Nail/Knail.
