James was born about 1826.[1] He was the son of James Nesbit and Ann Black. He married Margaret Cuthbertson in 1848, and they had five children.[2][3] James worked as a blacksmith in the iron works at Spittal, Northumberland.[4] The family moved to Durham where he worked at a shovel factory in Wolsingham where died in at the age of 92.[5]
