Margaret was born in 1821 and was the daughter of James Nesbit and Annie Black.[1] Margaret married Edmund Dodds at St. George's church in Edinburgh on 6 March 1847. Three months later, on 12 June 1847, she died after giving birth to Agnes Dodds.[2][3] The 1851 Census shows Agnes living in the household of her uncle, Margaret's brother John Nesbit.[4]
