Margaret Anna was born in 1908. She was the daughter of Elias Whilden Nettles and Lucy Waters Mellette. She passed away in 2006.
Born in Wedgefield, June 6, 1908, she was a daughter of the late Elias Whilden Nettles Sr. and the late Lucy Mellette Nettles.
She attended Winthrop College and taught school in Horry and Sumter counties, retiring from Sumter School District 2. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, including the Constance Herbert Bible Class and the UMW. She was a former member of the Dick Anderson Chapter of the UDC and the Sumter Chapter of the DAR.
Mrs. Crumpton is survived by her daughter, Lucy Crumpton Gordon of Columbia and her husband, Ronald L. Gordon; grandchildren, J. Margaret Gordon of Spartanburg and Capt. Ronald C. Gordon of Hattiesburg, Miss.; a sister, Eliza Nettles Wessinger of Savannah, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sister, Louise N. McLaurin; and brothers, E. Whilden Nettles Jr. and Robert M. Nettles Sr.
