Biography

Alicia was born on February 7, 1913 at Cherry Fork in Scott County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Ellard Newport and Laura Della ( Phillips ) Newport. She married Arthur Cross on May 29, 1931 in Scott County. Alicia passed away on March 4, 2002 at the Scott County Hospital in Oneida, Scott County.

Alicia Newport Cross, 89, died March 4, 2002, at the Scott County Hospital in Oneida. Born in the Cherry Fork community, February 7, 1913, she was preceded in death by her parents, Ellard and Della Phillips Newport; her husband, Arthur Cross; two daughters, Joann Cross and Wilma Jean Phillips; and one great-grandson, Jason Phillips. She was a member of Helenwood Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, Edward Cross and wife, Ann, of Los Angles, Calif., and George Cross and wife, Anna, of Oneida; one daughter, June Ross and husband, Rev. Harold Dean, of Helenwood; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one brother, Clyde Newport; and numerous other relatives. Funeral service was conducted March 8, 2002, in the chapel of West – Murley Funeral Home with Rev. Floyd Terry and Rev. Roger Cecil officiating. Music was provided by the Keifer Goad Family.
