Alexander Nicholson[1][2][3] was born on 10 March 1808 in Ulverston, Lancashire, 54.195,-3.09.[4] He was baptised on Sunday 10 April 1808 in Ulverston, Lancashire, 54.195,-3.09.[5]

He may have attended the wedding of his brother in the marriage of Donald Nicholson and Jane Wetherell in a Church of England ceremony in St. Michael in the Hamlet on Monday 17 May 1824 in Aigburth, Liverpool. Jane and Donald went on to have some 12 children together, seven of whom lived to adulthood.[6] He was a mariner in May 1830.[7]

Alexander Nicholson married Martha Davies, daughter of Thomas Davies and Martha (--?--), in St. Nicholas' on Saturday 22 May 1830 in Liverpool. They were 22 and 20 respectively.[8][9]

He was recorded as head of household in the 1841 census with Martha Davies (which other records indicate is his spouse) at Hoose, Wirral, Cheshire. he was 33 years old. Also living in the house were four of their children. Alexander wasn't home on census night.[10]

Although Alexander wasn't home on census night 1851, his family lived at Hoylake, Cheshire, 53.39,-3.18, and presumably he lived with them when he wasn't working.

He was recorded as head of household in the 1861 census with Martha Davies as his spouse at 22 Village Road, Hoose, Wirral, Cheshire. He was 53 years old. Also living in the house were two of their two youngest children. His eight year old daughter Amy was visiting with her son Thomas' wife. Alexander wasn't actually home on census night; he was probaly working.[11][12]

Alexander died on 25 January 1871 in Hoylake, Cheshire, 53.39,-3.18, aged 62.[13]
