Hartog Nijstad was born on 26 Jan 1839 in Assen, Drenthe, Nederland, son of Meijer Joël Nijstad (1792–1855) and Aaltje Godschalk Godfried (1798–1872).[1]
Hartog (age 32) married Flora Nathans (age 23) in Assen, Drenthe, Nederland on 26 Apr 1871. Flora was the child of Jacob Nathans and Claartje Polak.[2] Their known children were:

Hartog passed away on 24 Jan 1897 in Assen, Drenthe, Nederland, aged 57.[3]
