Biography

Gordon Noel was a Kentuckian.

Gordon Edward Noel was born on 5 Feb 1894 in Winchester, Clark, Kentucky, United States, son of William A Noel (1858 - 1927) and Martha Elizabeth (Green) Noel (1868 - 1940).

His sister was Pearl Ellen (Noel) Hinthorn (1893 - 1975).

Marriage and Family
Gordon married Clara Susan Hinthorn (1896 - 1983) on 12 Oct 1914 in Lexington, Fayette, Kentucky.

Their marriage was said to have been part a triple ceremony. As the Lexington Unit Journal posted on 15 Oct 1914, when the Rev. Oceola McNemar, of El Paso, Illinois, was called at noon, on Monday, October 12, 1914 to the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Noel to perform a double marriage ceremony, he found a third couple ready to be united in the bonds on matrimony, thus making it a rare triple ceremony.

The contracting parties were William Franklin Hinthorn (abt.1891-1969) and Pearl Ellen (Noel) Hinthorn (1893-1975), Gordon Noel and Carrie (Hinthorn) Noel (1896-1983) and John Hinthorn and Neola Tones. William Hinthorn and sister, Carrie, were the children of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hinthorn; John Hinthorn, a cousin to both William and Carrie Hinthorn, was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hinthorn. Miss Tones was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Tones, who were both deceased.

Their children were:

  1. Helen Louise (Noel) Williams (1918 - 2002)
  2. Violet Clarine (Noel) Elkin (1920 - 2020)
  3. Clarence Noel (1921 - 2001)
  4. Loren Everett Noel (1924 - 2009)
  5. Omer Lee Noel (1930 - 2008)
