Rachel was probably born in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania where there were a number of Obits families. It appears that they immigrated from Saxony in Germany. She married Andrew Myers who immigrated from Baden, Germany. According to the 1870 census he was a farmer and had $8000 worth of real estate and $2000 worth of personal estate. Andrew and Rachel had nine children (five girls and four boys):
In 1860 they were living in Newport Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. By 1862, when Alice was born, they were living in Beloit, Rock County, Wisconsin.
