Moses was born after 1795 in New York state the son of Moses Olmsted and Rhoda Miller. In later years, he may have used the family name with the added "a."
He was a "fifer" in the war of 1812. He may also have served during the Black Hawk War of 1830.
He married Lydia Hillis and they had a daughter Teressa.
Moses died after 1860.
Communications from Henrietta Rawson in my files stated Moses was from New York and had gone to gone to Kentucky and then with "his brother John an sister Polly came with Moses and his family (wife not named) from Kentucky to Illinois and then to Iowa." Henrietta said her research showed Moses' wife as Lydia (nee Carr?) Hill/Hills/Hillas. Henrietta also thought that the may be another sister, Margaret.
Another possibility is that John, Polly, and Margaret are children of a marriage before Lydia.
