Biography

James was born in 1932 in a suburb of Jacksonville, Florida. He attended The McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, graduating May 30, 1949, and then Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He enrolled in Emory University Medical School, eventually gaining board certification in surgery. He was later elected a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He moved with his family from Atlanta to Dalton, Georgia in 1965, where he established a successful surgical practice, as well as practicing emergency medicine in the Hamilton Medical Center emergency room. he and his first wife Alice raised two sons, Geoffrey Carmichael Oosterhoudt and James Joseph Oosterhoudt, Jr..He passed away in Tarpon Springs, Florida in 1987.
