Marie Denise (Ortego) Fontenot was born on 7 Oct 1828 in Opelousas, St. Landry, Louisiana, United States, daughter of Denis Ortego (~1795 - ) and Phelonise (Sallier) Ortego (1794 - <1837). Baptized 22 Nov. 1828.[1]

Her brother was Villeneuve Ortego (1824 - ~1899).

Marie married Zenon Larose Fontenot (~1823 - ~1901) on 1 Jul 1861 in Opelousas.

Marie died on 25 Jan 1906 in St Landry Parish, , Louisiana, USA aged 77.

Research Notes

Have yet to find any children born to Marie Denise and Zenon.

Antoinette Guillory is Marie Denise's step-mother. Denis Ortego's second wife but, the children's last names are Ortego on some Census records and Guillory on other's. I believe Ortego is the correct last name.

Also, Marie Desneiges Ortego (b. 27 June 1815) it appears, is sometimes confused with Marie Denise(b. 7 Oct 1828).....as if it were a misspelling.
