Adeline Laura Osborne ‘Laura’ was born in 1861 at Ballan and married Arthur Alfred Buley in 1882. “Marriages. Buley - Osborne. On the 31st March, at the resi- dence of the bride’s parents, by the Revs. John Cope and Henry Bath, Arthur Alfred Buley, M.A., second son of James Buley, of Ballarat, to Laura Adeline, eldest daughter of John Osborne, of Ballarat.” [The Ballarat Star, 18 April 1882] “The wedding of Mr Arthur Alfred Buley, principal of Grenville College, and Miss Laura Adeline Osborne, daughter of Mr Osborne, a well-known citizen of Ballarat, took place yesterday, at tho residence of the bride's parents, Soldiers Hill: The marriage service was performed by the Rev. Mr. Cope, assisted, by the Rev. H. Bath (Wesleyan minister), and was witnessed by a large number of relations and friends.” [The Ballarat Star, 1 April 1882] He matriculated at the University of Melbourne in March 1871, was Bachelor of Arts April 1877 and Master of Arts at School of Language and Logic, Melbourne University March 1881 [The Argus, 24 March 1881] They had six children, four of whom survived infancy.
