Death

Abner died at the ripe old age of 92 years. He died in July 1929 in Vernon, Lamar, Alabama. His spouse was listed as Haley Pennington. This record shows that he was born in 1837 to William Pennington.[1]

U.S. Headstone Application for U.S. Military Veterans:[2]He was buried in Furnace Hill Cemetery in Vernon, Alabama. His rank was a Private in Captain Joseph Ford's Company H., 1st Reg. of Alabama Calvary. Discharged at Rome, GA on Oct 24, 1864. They requested the headstone be mailed to S. M. Pennington in Sulligent, Lamar, Alabama.

Possible Spouses: 1st Lucinda Gilmore b. in Alabama m. Apr 4, 1866 in Fayette County, Alabama and 2nd to Margaret Ann Reed b. May 1855 in Alabama m. Mar 1888 in Lamar County, Alabama and possibly 3rd to Haley 1 Note: found where this is Margaret Ann Mahley Reed (Haley).

Abner Pennington and Margaret M. Reed were married on January 13, 1889 in Lamar, Alabama. Margaret was 19 and born in 1870.[3]

Census

1870 Census. Abner was living at home with his spouse, Lucinda, in Sanford, Alabama. They were living next door to Francis and Nancy Pennington and Jesse Pennington and Mary lived a couple of doors down from them. Abner was 31 and Lucinda was 28. They had one child: Sampson Pennington, age 2. They were all born in Alabama.[4]
1880 Census. Abner was living in Lamar, Alabama. His son, Samson, age 13 was living with him along with his niece, Clarendy Burgis, age 18. They were all born in Alabama. It appears, since Lucinda was no longer in the household that she had died sometime before 1880.[5]
