Census

1860 Census. Big Bill was living with his spouse, Elizabeth, in Fayette, Alabama. He was 50 and she was 32. They were both born in Alabama and they had 13 children in the house with them along with his brother, Joseph Pennington age 45 b. in S. Carolina; and Francis Pennington, age 20. The children in the house were:

1) Thomas age 16 (Thomas M.) b. 1845
2) Silas age 13 (Silas Lafayette) b. 1846
3) Carroll age 12 b. 1848
4) Mary (Mary S.) age 9 b. 1850
5) Mandy (Amanda) age 7 b. 1853
6) Martha (Martha L.) age 3 b. 1856
7) Malinda (Malinda Frances) age 1 b. 1859
[1]

Note: Sarah, Nancy, John, Ben, William, Abner, Clarinda and Margaret were already gone and Valentine and Margaret were not born yet.

__________________________________ None of the following children in the 1860 Census match up to his children that I've already listed. These must belong to Joseph, Big Bill's brother, since he died in 1860, he might have been ill. It appears his wife had died earlier that same year.

8) Martha age 18 b. 1842
9) John age 15 b. 1845
10) Louisa age 13 b. 1847
11) Roland age 12 b. 1848
12) Malinda age 10 b. 1850
13) Minerva age 9 b. 1851

1870 Census. E. A. (Elizabeth Ann) Pennington was living in Sanford, Alabama next door to James E. and Rebecca Pennington along with all of her children: Mary S. age 18; Amanda B. age 16; Martha L. age 14; Malinda F. age 12; Valentine age 10; and Delia L. age 8. They were all born in Alabama. Big Bill had been dead for six years. John Mobley was also living next door and I'm sure between these two families, they were able to feed this one because Elizabeth's profession was keeping house. Amanda, her daughter, would later marry a "Mobley."[2]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Mary by comparing test results with other carriers of her ancestors' mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Mary:
