Genealogically Defined

Jemima was born about 1808 at Walthamstow, Essex, England^[1] and baptised on the 1st January 1809 at St. Mary the Virgin, Walthamstow, Essex, England, the daughter of Edward Perry and Maria Perry^[2].

On the 21st December 1831, Jemima was a witness at the marriage of her sister Sarah Perry to Richard John Whitman at St. Leonard, Shoreditch, Middlesex, England^[3].

Jemima was the mother of illegitimate Harriet Susanna{h} Loveday aka Harriet Perry born in 1841 at Stratford, Essex, England but registered as if her parents were married*.

In 1875, Jemima was living at 15 Victoria Road, Islington, Middlesex, England^[4].

She passed away aged 66 years in 1875^[5] and was buried on the 3rd June 1875 at Finchley Burial Ground, Middlesex, England^[4].

Research Notes

Harriet Perry was Jemima's daughter (no birth registration or baptism found under the name Harriet Perry). Jemima's brother Edward was living in Walthamstow in 1841 and 1842, and didn't have a daughter Harriet. Sister Sarah was married in 1831 and had a daughter Jemima Whitman born in 1842. Sister Harriet Maria didn't marry until 1849 but was recorded as Harriet's aunt in 1861. However, youngest sister Henrietta was alive in 1849 (witnessed sister Harriet Maria's marriage) and would have been old enough to be Harriet's mother.

However, there was a Harriet Susannah Loveday born on the 5th June 1841 at Stratford, Essex, England and baptised on the 15th August 1841 at All Saints, West Ham, Essex, England, the daughter of Thomas Loveday (warehouseman) and Jemima Loveday nee Perry of Stratford. There is no evidence of a Thomas, Jemima or Harriet Susanna(h) Loveday other than the birth registration and baptism. It is likely that Jemima pretended to be married when she registered the birth of her daughter.
