Biography

Freda Peters Farrington passed away Jan. 4, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. Freda was born Aug. 25, 1925, in Pyatt, Ark., to John D. and Buelah Copeland Peters. At the age of 12, Freda moved with her family from Arkansas to Juliaetta, Idaho.

Following her graduation from high school, Freda moved to Spokane, Wshington and worked in a bank before moving to Bremerton, Washington, where she contributed to the war efforts as an employee of the Department of Defense. At the close of World War II, Freda returned to the Juliaetta area, where she worked as a telephone operator for Potlatch Telephone Company.

On Feb. 6, 1946, Freda Peters married Everett Farrington in Lewiston, Idaho. Everett survived his wife of 66 years at the family home in Juliaetta, Idaho, where they raised their three daughters, Kathleen (Dan) Johnson of Spokane, Barbara Farrington of Lewiston, Idaho and Betty (Golden) Steele of Gilmer, Texas.

Freda's passion for life was reflected in her unconditional love and support of her family, as well as her unwavering faith in the Lord. She was adored by her eight grandchildren, Rebecca Harmon of Meridian, Idaho, Brian Johnson, currently serving a tour of duty in Afghanistan, Joshua Johnson of Spokane, Heather Ransom of Grants Pass, Ore., Andrew Tweit of Kendrick, Katie Tweit of Lewiston, Aundi Howerton of San Francisco, Tony Howerton of Coeur d'Alene; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Freda was preceded in death by her parents, John D. Peters and Buelah, Idaho. Copeland Peters, and her brother, Tom Peters of Juliaetta, Idaho. She is survived by two sisters, Minnie (Mike) Hedler of Juliaetta, Idaho and Frankie (Vaughn) Alfrey of Lewiston, Idaho.

Freda was active and social in her community, an avid bridge player who belonged to a community bridge club for many years. She also served as Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star. Freda was a devout member of the Juliaetta Community Church.

Freda's family would also like to express its heartfelt appreciation for the loving care provided by Dr. David Peterson and Dr. Katrina Popham. Thanks goes out especially to Amy and Kelly Knapp, and Donna Cole of Unique Senior Care, and the St. Joseph Hospice team for their excellent care during these very difficult last months.^[1]
