The following is from the Criminal Court records: No. 29 Circuit Court of Champaign County, Ill. In the Matter of The People & C vs. Francis J. Peters. "State of Illinois |. Champaign County | S S. 2 "Be it remembered that on the 25th day of May AD 1866 F. J. Peters of Scott Township in the county aforesaid and P. S. Collins of Scott Township in the county aforesaid personally came before O. W. Littler a justice of the peace of the said county and severally and respectively acknowledged themselves to owe to the people of the state of Illinois that is to say the said F. J. Peters and P. S. Collins each the sum of two hundred dollars to be made and levied of their respective goods and chattel lands and tenements to the use of the said people if default shall be made in the following condition. The condition of this recognizance is such that if the said F. J. Peters shall personally appear at the next term of the circuit court to answer to an indictment to be preferred against him for abusing Henry Miller and threatening to kill him and to do and receive what shall be by the court then and there enjoined upon him, and shall not depart the court without leave than this recognizance to be void otherwise remains in full force. 2 "Taken subscribed and acknowledged Signed the day and year first above written Frances J. Peters before O. W. Littler J P P. S. Collins. 2 "Justice fees. For issusing warrant 25 cts. adminstering oath 6 1/4. taking acknowledment of bond 25 cts. docketing suit 12 1/2 cts. writing bond 25 -.
