Biography
John William Pettitt was born on 28 September 1892 in Rock Falls, Whiteside, Illinois, United States, son of Harmer Wilson Pettitt (1855–1913) and Agnes Irene Allison (1858–1943).[1]
In 1900, John (7) was living in household of Harmer W Pettitt (45) in Brookville Township, Ogle. [2]
In 1910, John (17) was living in household of Hanner W Pettitt (55) in Buffalo, Ogle. [3]
He married Mabelle J Nettz on 5 October 1912 in Dixon, Lee, Illinois. Born in 1891, she was the daughter of Daniel Bovey Nettz and Aretta Rachael Todd. They had two daughters.
John registered for the draft for World War I. [1], [4]
In 1920, John (27) was living in household of Daniel Mettz (59) in Pine Creek Township, Ogle. [5]
In 1930, John (37) was living in household of Aretta R Nett (67) in Pine Creek, Ogle. [6]
In 1940, John (47) was living in Pine Creek Township, Ogle. [7]
John died on 29 October 1954 in Dixon, Lee, Illinois, aged 62. He was buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Polo, Ogle County, Illinois.[8]
Research Notes
John's memorial on Find a Grave gives him a first name "James," though the image of his gravestone is written "J. William Pettitt." An edit request has been sent. Rounsefell-5 19:30, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
