Biography

Thomas was the son of John Pettyjohn and Sara Long. He was born in Accomack, Virginia. His estate was settled in Sussex County, Delaware.

He died in April 1721, leaving a widow whom his will does not name, and a daughter, Isabell Pettyjohn.

Thomas made the following bequests in his will:^[1]

daughter Isabell Pettyjohn – one hundred acres of land where my plantation now lyeth; moveable estateto be divided with mother

wife – moveable estate (to be divided with daughter Isabell); Isabell's estate if she died without heirs or before age 21.

brother Richard Pettyjohn – two year old mare

In 1728, the final accounting for Thomas's estate was submitted by his father, John Pettyjohn. The accounting makes reference to a widow and child, but does not provide their names.

(sole) Executr of the Last will and Testament of Thomas Pettijon last Dec: appeared in Co. and charged himself ? debt with the inventor of the sd dec’d estate to wit £5 s” 71d. again which he produced sundry accts of Dss. p. upon the acct of Thos Dec’d amounting in the whole to the sum of £16.5.7 with his commission & Cou’ & Reg. fees included

Isable Pettijon daughter of Thoma Pettijohn Late dec’d, appeared in Court and prayed admittance to choose her Guardian which was granted. Whereupon she chose her unkell Jn. Pettijon.” John Pettyjohn appeared, accepted, and agreed to make bond.
