Samuel was most likely the son of John Petipool and Elizabeth Strondall, and baptised on 15 February 1606 [1606/7?] at St Margaret, Barking, Essex, England.[1][2]
Samuel was a cordwinder. He married Alice Jackson on 19 September 1627 at St Dunstan and All Saints, Stepney, Middlesex, The parish register records: "Samuell Pettipoole of Ratcliffe cordwinder & Alice Jackson of Wapping maid 19 [September],"[3] They had seven children, but only two survived within 2 years of their christening: Sarah 1628, James 1629, William 1630, Martha 1633, Jane 1634, Elizabeth 1635, and Mary 1637. William and Mary were the only two children surviving into adolescence.
In the baptism records of his children, Samuel is described as being a shoemaker or cordwainer.
In 1641 Samuel is recorded in a document as affirming an oath of allegiance to the cause of Parliament and the Protestant religion. He is listed as being an inhabitant of the hamlet of Ratcliff. [4]
He was buried on 20 August 1667 at St Dunstan and All Saints, Stepney.[5]

Research Notes
Children of Samuel and Alice bap at St Dunstan, Stepney:
A previous version of this profile styled him "Sir" Samuel Pettypool. Shaw's The Knights of England (1906) does not record the bestowal of a knighthood upon anyone named Pettypool (or similar) during the period.[15]
I removed William Pettypool and Margarey Redman of Burnham, Essex, as Samuel's parents and replaced them with John Petipool and Elizabeth Strondall of Barking, Essex. No records have been found to suggest that William Pettypool and Margaret Redman had a son Samuel. (Speed-878 14:44, 12 February 2021 (UTC))
